Reniella Farm

Reniella Olive Oil
Olive Oil is one of the great gastronomic delights of Italy and of this region, where the oil is superlative. On the farm we have 450 olive trees, many of them over 100 years old and 5 or 6 metres high. There are at least 8 varieties here which gives the oil from our farm its characteristic and unique flavour. The olives are hand picked and the harvest begins in early October and continues through to early December.

The Vineyard
We have just under a hectare of vineyard (2.7 acres) from which we produce a robust red wine from the Sangiovese grapes and a sweet dessert wine called vin santo from the white varieties and some reds. The grape harvest takes place towards the end of September.

When the grapes are ready for harvesting we have a short period to ensure the crop is at its best possible condition. During a hetic few days many local people lend a hand picking the grapes. Here our neighbour is helping Bob in the lower vineyard.

The bins full of grapes are taken directly to our wine cellar where the winemaking process begins. We are happy to have helpers for the grape harvest, for those who would like some 'hands-on' experience of wine making as part of their holiday. We also make the sweet white Tuscan wine called Vin Santo, for which we have a small production and is kept in small oak barrels for up to 10 years.
